This stone truly has very strong magical powers in very real & life changing ways. It was the very first stone I personally was introduced to in my own healing journey to learning about everything crystal related. However, I send caution to those looking to add this crystal to their own collection, be wary to it’s powers.

This stone originates from cooling lava and was used as tools such as arrowheads and cutting tools because of its sharp edges one broken or sharpened into sharp pieces. In fact, it is not a stone per say, rather volcanic glass formed when lava extruded from a volcano cools rapidly with minimal crystal growth, it is an igneous rock or magmatic rock.

Black Obsidian is a protective stone and will help you during hardships or shock from trauma. I learned its properties in a very personal way, starting with its unique way to pull out my own inner truths I was hiding in a brut and forceful way. But it provided me protection even during my toughest moments.

Remember, care should be taken to when utilizing a Black Obsidian if one is suffering from chronic depression as this stone may add additional heaviness. Anyone who is engaged in active or continuous “problem solving mode,” will benefit from keeping a piece of Obsidian nearby. Black Obsidian is especially helpful for dissecting beliefs and habits that have been passed down to us by our families, allowing us to decide for ourselves whether these ideas are true and useful.

In my own experience of loosing someone near and dear to me, to going through a scary medical diagnose for my son and finally coming out to the world as who I really am, Black Obsidian has been a very scary, but needed tool in helping me through the hardest times in my life thus far. Feeling alone, depressed and feeling like I can't make it through, the stone was a daily reminder that I am strong, I am confident, I am enough and I can make it! Sometimes, at it takes is a daily physical reminder like a stone that we can see and touch to help us.

Obsidian crystal has been treasured for its mysterious and powerful properties for centuries. It is believed to swallow up negative energies and provide strength during times of difficulty & to support us in our spiritual paths. Its iron-rich glassy black exterior resembles the shadows of the night, yet within these depths lies a glimmer of hope.
